It was a win-win!
In early December we held a “Goodness Giveaway” drawing. Daniel Heist was the lucky customer who took home a cart filled with $75 worth of Co+op Basics – plus manager, Matt Hass, holds a $75 check we donated to our local food shelf, Keystone. It was a win-win – healthy and sustainable products for Daniel AND dollars to an organization that provides necessities to many of our HPC neighbors!
Keystone began in 1939 as a small neighborhood community center – and today reaches more than 30,000 individuals in Ramsey County through a variety of human services such as youth programming, senior services, food shelves and distribution, and crisis support. Just one of their goals is to improve food access – and providing healthy foods to the whole community has long been a priority for food co-ops because we believe access to good food is not a privilege, but a right.
Keystone operates three food shelves plus a Foodmobile in Ramsey County designed to give families access to groceries and other emergency services, and importantly, to provide healthy choices and supplemental food sources to keep families on the right track – empowering them to build self-sufficiency and healthy eating habits.
At Hampden Park Co-op we have a drop-off area right under the main register where you can conveniently leave donations of non-perishable food and household products. These get picked up by our local Keystone Midway Food Shelf (1916 University Ave W, near Prior Ave). To learn more about Keystone Community Services visit their website.
Thanks to NCG for sponsoring the Goodness Giveaway contest!
