July roundup goes to Movies in the Park
Last year we thought it would be fab to show off the sweet little greenspace across from our co-op, and make it a community hub for films, family and fun with Movies in the Park. Did you happen to see Zootopia, Queen of Katwe, or Sing in 2017?!
Again we're working with St. Paul Parks & Rec, the St. Anthony Park Community Council, and an international motion-picture licensing company to host first-rate movies that are PG – plus entertaining for adults, too. This year's lineup: Moana (June 29) • My Little Pony (July 21) • Coco (August 18).
Hampden Park, our namesake, was renovated in 2016 and is fronted by: a Soofa Charging Bench which is a solar-powered station with USB ports to charge cell phones; a bike pump and repair station called Fixit (the park is part of the Grand Rounds bikeway project); and "Divan," a granite scultpure that just invites you to sit, by NE Mpls sculptor Zoran Mojsilov whose whitty public art can be found all over the Twin Cities, including at Surly Brewing. The park also has: an ADA-compliant picnic table on the east end; pollinator-friendly, neonic-free plants; delicious edible Serviceberry trees, commonly found in MN forests; and a mix of deciduous trees and evergreens rimming the edges making for a cozy clearing area to set up blankets and lawn chairs to view movies. In the evening, it's magical when the bats come out…
Everyone is welcome at Movies in the Park and there is no admission but, of course, putting on the movies is not free… Your spare change helps us offset the fees – so if you can't join us at these entertaining events, you can be there in supportive spirit!
