928 News – Summer Issue – June, July, August
There's some good summertime reading in this issue of the newsletter: "Welcome Our New General Manager" by Lucia Cowles & Kate Gray; "Fresh Eyes" by that new General Manager Chuck Parsons; "Mayfest" by Brianna Darling; and "Thoughts on Sustaining Our Cooperative Community" by Sarah McRoberts.
We also some have thoughtful journalism: "Reflections on Pride" by Dylan MacWilliams, who shares a bit of background on the gay rights movement, and similarities to social justice groups of color. Dylan includes some resources: RECLAIM!, JustUs Health, and Association for Black Economic Power. Hampden Park Co-op is marching "Co-op Proud" along with other local co-ops in the Twin Cities Pride Parade on Sunday, June 24th at 11:00.
Yay! It's summer so it is time for Movies in the Park:
• Moana – Friday, June 29, 9:00 pm
• My Little Pony – Saturday, July 21, 8:45 pm
• Coco – Saturday, August 18, 8:15 pm
Have you noticed our "new used" hot bar in the store? Arie Kroeger explains a bit about the amazing (!) prepared foods our deli is turning out.
We welcome back Naomi Jackson with her excellent article, "Keeping Roots in the Soil: Regenerative Agriculture." Naomi introduces us to the "Humungous Fungus" and outlines some of the science behind the benefits of no-till farming. She includes tips on how home gardeners can adapt its tenets to restore their soil health.
Plus, there are staff picks for things they love: P.J. Wehrwein (Bliss Gourmet Foods), Nikole Williams (Nancy's Yogurt), Nathan Vargovcik (Ripple Pea Milk), Chuck Parsons (Maine Root), Cina Kozel (Honey Mama's), and Mickey Quinn (Herban Cowboy).
And last, but not least, the discount coupons for member-owners.
If you'd like to read the newsletter online, find the latest pdf here. Enjoy the summer!
