Ideas for Earth Day

Co-op Lobby

The talk is everywhere – especially around Earth Day which is April 22nd: it’s time to lower your carbon footprint. The climate science and carbon-cutting challenges may seem daunting, but our neighbors at Transition Town - ASAP and Noll Hardware are here to tell you not to give up: start where you are!

“Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something.” ~Gil Scott-Heron

A few Transition Town folks went down the street to Noll Hardware to brainstorm about practical “tools” that people can use to lighten their load on the Earth. Together, they came up with a list of affordable items and simple ways to help us save energy and water, reduce waste, and tackle home projects. Hampden Park Co-op has added some product ideas, too. Come see all those items in the co-op entry on Saturday, April 20, 1:00–3:00, and learn how to use them.

Transition Town - ASAP is a grassroots community group offering a positive, local response to climate change. Their purpose is to raise our neighborhood's understanding of climate change and the limits of fossil fuels, and to foster a positive, community-wide transition to more sustainable ways of life... ASAP. As they say, "We bring diverse skills – what we accomplish reflects who’s showing up. Our ideas are as many as the challenges we all face." They remind us that climate change calls for our best efforts – right now.

Noll Hardware is our local, friendly, old-school hardware store. They are small but mighty: with 12,000 products in stock and over 50,000 in the Hardware Hank warehouse, they can help with tools, supplies and other home-improvement items. Noll offers a great alternative to the big box stores with the ability to purchase just what you need for a project. When you choose some of their hardware out of the bins, it’s like buying bulk at the co-op!

So stop by April 20th to see Tools to Lower Your Carbon Footrpint for some easy ways that can help you shift toward carbon neutral!

“We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions doing it imperfectly.” ~Zero Waste, Saint Paul
